TRYOUTS 2020

Tryouts for the competitive teams will take place in two parts:

PART 1: A virtual try-out video submission.  Please submit a video to the Dropbox folder below, no later than midnight on July 15, 2020.  Please see below for the video requirements.

PART 2: An on-ice tryout will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Chiller North.  The on-ice tryout will evaluate skaters on their ability to skate in common synchro formations.  Please see more information below about the on-ice tryout.

Both parts of the tryout must be complete for a skater to be considered for a competitive team in the  2020-2021 season.  If a skater cannot attend the in-person tryout, alternative arrangements must be made in advance of the tryout date.

Video Tryout Skills for Competitive Teams

Your tryout video should include the skills detailed below IN THE ORDER LISTED.

These elements will be evaluated on:

  • edge quality

  • posture

  • speed and flow

  • extension

  • knee/ankle bend

  • ability to accelerate

Skills are divided based on their corresponding Moves in the Field level.  Please perform these elements using the pattern from the corresponding Moves in the Field test. Please complete each pattern with a T-Stop or Show-Stop.

Elements not included in the Moves in the Field curriculum may be filmed individually, in a sequence of the skater's choice, or in a program.

If possible, please compile your video files into one video for submission. Video files must follow a standard naming convention: [First Name][Last Name][Submission Date]

Testing Level

Skaters must have passed or are currently working towards Juvenile Moves in the Field.  Testing in freeskate and ice dance is strongly encouraged, but not required.

Note

Skaters at this level are required to take private or semi-private lessons and skate at least one day per week outside of synchro.  Additional practice is strongly advised.
